Automatic Doors

What do you think about automatic doors? I don't think I agree. The convenience is great but there is always that fear of approaching the door and it remaining shut. It's a terrifying thought, hitting your face into a door that doesn't open for you, when you expected it to. I think, for safety, comfort and assurance, I would like all doors to open manually.

How clean does the ground have to be before you kiss it?

At Totnes railway station yesterday a group of men in orange ‘hi-vis’ jackets were pressure-washing the tarmac of platform 2, and I asked a member of staff if it was in aid of the Queen visiting Dartington today. He replied it was not, and was just part of their annual maintenance. I then remembered how many times I had lain on that tarmac in a performative way and wondered if it was now clean enough to kiss, Pope-like.
